A Little Project Life!

Ok I admit at first I was like Project life! Yeah ok, who has the time for that! I didn't like it for many reasons, It's not that pretty, well not as pretty as traditional scrapbooking, also I dont get alot of time on a weekly basis to go through my photos of the week and create chronological timelines of events and day to day life! maybe I just lack the organization skills although in some parts of my life I'm extremely organized and a little OCD, although in other parts of my life I'm just messy and well just lack the ambition to organize it all, scrapbooking is in that part, so it seemed very daunting to me to become that organized to make it work, However, time has passed and project life has started to pull me in... I subscribed to Studio Calico for Project life and had to wait a couple of months until I got my first kit, I received the kit looked through it, loved it, put it on the shelf! about 3 weeks went by and I saw the new kit was coming... Oh! Right I should try and use up some of that kit before the new one arrives!! So I did :)
Ok so like I said I'm not organized enough for the week by week events just yet so I am focusing on events this year that needed more documenting than just a couple of pictures on a page! I'm hoping to re-arrange my whole workspace to better suit the scrapper/project lifer I'm molding myself to be! And with that being said I would like to organize this part of my life! *shock*

So I've chitter chatted for long enough, here is my first project life page, and my second! :)

My Dad visited this winter and we surprised him with a trip to Shubenacadie Wildlife Park he has visited Canada many times but had never seen a Moose!!! Well he has now :)

This 2 Pager is 1 Page Scrapbook Page and the 2nd page Project life, I really love how they look set out in an album, I was always lazy to journal on a page, actually not just lazy but afraid I would mess up a layout I had spent hours on with messy handwriting or a spelling error!

In May I participated in my first ever organized running event it was the Colour Run and it was to raise money for the schools in Springhill, I don't actually live in Springhill anymore but 3 of my children attended school there and they are awesome little schools.

Yasmin & I had a great time we will do it again and again, but next year the whole family will be in it!

Thats it for today :) I have one or two layouts to share in a day or two.

Snapshots

Hey, so as you can see apart from my guest design spot at ScrapThat! last month I really have not done much scrapping! Not 100% sure why after 4 years of being on Design Teams and having deadlines all the time I needed a break! I have refocused on who I want to be a scrapbooker, I will buy the products I like and create when I want! Sounds like a lot to ask doesn't it? lol

So here's my plan (yes creating deadlines for myself, but not really) All I want to do right now is enjoy my scrappy supply and blog once or twice a week. I'm also on a weightloss journey and we are renovating our 3000 sq ft house so I may even share some of those pictures too! I want to reclaim my blog and make it about my kids, my husband, my house, my dog, my cat and my creative side.

SO I purchased the Echo Park Here&Now collection while in Halifax last month, I cracked it open a couple of days ago and finished a layout today, I found this freebie for the silhouette and I LOVED it so much I cut the shapes right away!

So this is what I came up with, lots of layers using the negative layers from the silhouette.

When vellum was a big thing all those years ago I hated it! Never knew what to do with it, but I actually love it now, it adds such a nice layer.

And I'm totally in with the sequin craze.

Well thats it, I love that my creative spirit is back with me! It's been too long! Have a great evening.

ScrapThat! Main Kit Tutorial.

Hey there, Zoe here with you today, and I have a few techniques to share with you, I love details in scrapbooking, I've always believed that it's the little things that count. We always start with a plain piece of paper... so lets start with the background. I just so happened to order this checker stencil not knowing I would receive the sunrise kit from ScrapThat! I was pretty happy when I found out as the stencil is designed for the same line by prima... I love it! I think it's my most fav stencil to date.

So I used this stencil to add ink first, I know it sounds simple but do you have any idea how many times I've used the modelling paste or gesso and then wished I had of inked first?? well thats just me... I see the final piece in my head and try and get there as fast as I can and forgetting all the steps. So always stencil with ink first and then add your paste, Trust me! I like to use Tim Holtz distress inks and applicator, I gently swirl the applicator sponge in a circular motion to get a nice even coverage a little bit of ink goes a long way.
I also use old credit cards for my modelling paste, and my favourite brands are liquitex and golden usually whichever is discounted :)

We received this awesome ribbon in the kit, it is wired... which is great as we can have some fun with this... I wanted to scrunch the ribbon up, securing the scrunches with a sewing machine is usually the best way to hold them in place but we don't all have sewing machines (I do, but for now lets pretend I don't) so this ribbon you can slide it down on the wires and then tie once you have the right amount of scrunchiness!!

Once you are happy you should have something like this :) just add dabs of glue to adhere it to your layout or sew it in place, if you sew, make sure to sew closer to the edges so it will not flatten your ruffles.

Ok I admit it... I'm a frugal scrapper... but I also enjoy layers and embellishments and flowers and and... you get the idea. So here is an idea to make your supplies go further. In the Main kit you will receive this awesome chipboard swirl. Well why dont we make that TWO chipboard swirls :) VERY carefully you can pull apart if you slide you nail or fine scissors around the outside edge and slowly peel away.

Now let get some paint going and make these chipboard pieces become part of our page. I used a yellow heavy body paint by liquitex, you don't have to use heavy body but it was the closest to my desk!  And I know it's bright... it wont stay like this for long :)

Once your paint has dried you can add some alcohol ink I don't have many colours but these are hazelnut and wild plum... they actually worked really well for the colours of my page.

I decided the bright yellow was wayyyy too bright so I dulled the colours down by using a white distress stain... love this stuff! Just dab it on.

Last but not least I added crackle glaze this is definitely an optional stage, keep in mind the drying time is overnight for this stuff to crackle fully. Once dry add to you page.

Add some dimension with pop dots and pop your titles off the page.

One of my most favourite things to do with wire stemmed flowers is to twist them into spirals... again... details :)

And here is my final page and a couple of detail shots.

I also LOVE to add little spots of Gesso to my finished layouts, you can really see it in my detailed shots here.

I really hope you enjoyed my tutorial. Happy Scrapping.
